When can I access my Live Well Rewards?
All rewards you earn between October 1 and December 31, 2023, will be available to you beginning January 8, 2024. You may continue to redeem your earned rewards throughout the year up to September 30, 2024, which is the last day of the Live Well at Citi Program year.
How do I redeem my Pulse Points for gift cards?
Go to the Rewards tab in your Virgin Pulse account to select a gift card.
Important Notes Regarding the Taxability of Your Gift Cards
Live Well Rewards are considered taxable income under the current U.S. Internal Revenue Code and you’ll be taxed when you earn rewards. However, to compensate for the tax, Citi will “gross up” or issue payments approximating any tax you’ll pay. That way, you receive the full gift card amount.
You’ll receive a separate paycheck approximating the tax you will pay on the gift card reward amount, which will be listed as “noncash GU.”
Example: If you earned $100 in Live Well Rewards, Citi will add $25 to your paycheck to cover the estimated 25% federal supplemental tax rate you’ll pay on your gift card earnings. You’ll receive a separate paycheck approximating the tax you will pay on the gift card reward amount, which will be listed as “noncash GU.”
Your Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement (“Form W-2”) will include the value of the gift card(s) earned and the related tax amount. If your spouse or partner receives a gift card, the value of his/her gift card(s) and the related tax amount will also be reported on your Form W-2.
When are gift cards taxed?
You’ll be taxed when you earn Live Well Rewards, not when you redeem or spend the gift card.
Example: You reach Level 1 in June and earn a $10 Live Well Reward. You redeem it for an Amazon gift card in August. You will be taxed in June.
Can I donate my Pulse Points? If I do, will I receive a receipt?
Yes, you may choose to donate your earned Pulse Points to a charitable cause. Go to the Rewards tab in your Virgin Pulse account to see the nonprofit organizations where your points can be donated. Charitable options for 2024 include the American Heart Association, World Food Program USA, Clean Water Fund and Special Olympics.
If you donate Pulse Points to a charitable organization, you will receive a receipt showing the dollar amount donated. After you make your donation, the receipt will be sent to your preferred email address.
What if I’m leaving Citi and I have earned Live Well Rewards but haven’t redeemed them for gift cards yet?
You must be working at Citi to redeem Live Well Rewards for gift cards, so redeem your Live Well Rewards for gift cards before you terminate employment, if possible.
Do I need to request gift cards in certain amounts?
You can redeem your Live Well Rewards for gift cards at any time in the amounts made available by the merchants and retailers who offer them. Gift card values will vary by merchant and retailer and are subject to minimums. In addition, you may redeem your Rewards in separate gift cards with different merchants and retailers. Visit Virgin Pulse through My Total Compensation and Benefits or log in directly to see the gift card options available to you.
Are there any restrictions on using gift cards?
View the terms and conditions section below your card’s activation instructions to see any gift card restrictions. Generally, gift cards won’t expire and can be used at the selected merchant or retailer either online or in person by anyone in possession of the card, so keep them in a safe place until you use them.
How long will it take to receive my gift cards after I request them?
Gift cards will be delivered electronically. In most cases, the gift card can be used immediately; however, for some retailers, gift cards may take one to two business days to be activated.
Is there any way to redeem my Live Well Rewards for cash?
No, but with the wide selection of gift cards available, we believe you’ll find one that works for you.
What if I discontinue my medical coverage during the year and don’t receive my full Live Well Reward credit for completing the Live Well Health Assessment? Will I receive my balance in a gift card?
No. If you or your enrolled spouse/partner cancels your Citi medical coverage due to a qualified change in status or leaving Citi, you’ll forfeit any remaining Live Well credits earned through the Health Assessment.
In addition, if you and your spouse/partner both participate in the Live Well Program at Citi and you cancel your Citi medical coverage due to a qualified change in status and continue to work for Citi, you can continue to participate in the program as a Citi employee, but your spouse/partner can’t continue to participate.
How do I know when I’ve successfully completed the Live Well Health Assessment to earn Live Well Rewards?
Immediately after completing the last question on the Health Assessment, you will see your health score.
When can I complete activities to earn Live Well Rewards?
The Live Well Rewards Program plan year runs from , through . Earn the maximum Live Well Rewards by earning enough Pulse Points to reach Level 4 each quarter and completing action rewards that are available throughout the year.
What if I still have a Live Well Rewards balance at the start of the Live Well Rewards plan year that begins on October 1? Will my Live Well Rewards carry over into the new plan year?
Yes. Your unused Live Well Rewards balance carries over from one year to the next as long as you are a Citi employee or spouse/partner.
Before you can embark on your journey designed to improve your health, it is important to understand your health status and recognize areas where you can improve. As such, we encourage you to take the Live Well Health Assessment each year to help you achieve this and give you the opportunity to earn discounts on your medical plan paycheck deductions, as well.
Based on your Health Assessment responses, you will be invited to participate in specific Live Well Journeys and/or coaching programs to earn Pulse Points. You may also call Virgin Pulse at and request to participate in these programs.
What if I already completed the Live Well Health Assessment in the past?
Even if you completed the Health Assessment in the past, you must take it again each year between October 1 and November 12, to earn a $100 reduction on your medical plan paycheck deductions (or $100 Live Well Reward if you are not enrolled in Citi medical benefits) for the following plan year.
Can new employees who join Citi or transfer from a Citi international business on or after September 24 take the Live Well Health Assessment and receive the $100 Live Well Reward?
We encourage new employees to take the Health Assessment since it may identify areas where they can improve their health. However, new employees who join Citi or transfer from an international business or assignment on or after September 24 will not be able to earn the $100 Live Well Reward for taking the Health Assessment.
New employees have 31 days to enroll in benefits. After they enroll, their eligibility information is sent electronically to Virgin Pulse to reflect in the records that a new member is eligible for the program. Depending on when within the 31-day period the employee enrolls, there may not be enough time for him or her to access the Health Assessment in order for Virgin Pulse to process the Live Well Reward in time for the following plan year.
Can I take the Live Well Health Assessment after November 12?
Yes. You and your spouse/partner who is enrolled in a Citi medical plan can still take the Health Assessment, though you will not receive the $100 Live Well Reward.
Where can I get more information on the Live Well Health Assessment?
For more information on the Health Assessment, employees can call Virgin Pulse at , visit the Virgin Pulse website, or download the Virgin Pulse app to their Apple or Android smartphone.
Spouses/partners who are enrolled in a Citi medical plan can access the Virgin Pulse website once they’ve registered. The first time that your spouse/partner logs in, he or she will be prompted to create a user ID and password. If your spouse/partner has any issues registering his or her account, call Virgin Pulse for assistance at .

What is the tobacco penalty, and will I have to pay it?
You and your enrolled spouse/partner will each pay a $600 annual penalty ($23 per paycheck for 26 paychecks) for your medical coverage if:
You can avoid the tobacco penalty by attesting to being a non-user of tobacco or by completing the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program by September 30.
If my spouse/partner or I complete the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program in the middle of the plan year, can I stop paying the tobacco penalty before the next Annual Benefits Enrollment?
Yes. If you or your spouse/partner complete the program, you will stop paying the penalty as soon as administratively possible (within two pay cycles of program completion). Once the program is completed, you will receive a full refund of all penalty payments made during that same plan year, if you complete the program by .
What constitutes “completing” the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program?
You or your spouse/partner must complete a minimum of four sessions with a tobacco cessation health coach if you are participating in health coaching. If you are participating in an online tobacco Journey, the program will be considered “completed” when you complete your Journey. In order to receive a full refund of all penalty payments made during the plan year, you have until to complete the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program. Note: While becoming tobacco-free is the goal of these programs, it is not required in order to receive a full refund of your tobacco penalty payments.
Which tobacco cessation Journey can I participate in to complete the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program?
You or your spouse/partner can choose from any of the following Journeys to complete the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program:
Do I need to notify the Citi Benefits Center when I complete the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program?
No. Once you complete the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program, the Citi Benefits Center will receive confirmation from Virgin Pulse and will stop your penalty payments as soon as administratively possible, if it is completed by .
In completing the Tobacco Free Attestation, how do I know if I can consider myself “tobacco-free”?
You are considered tobacco-free if you have not used tobacco (cigarettes, cigars, pipes) or any tobacco products in the past six months. Tobacco products include e-cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, such as chewing tobacco and snuff. As such, you would be considered tobacco-free unless you have used any tobacco products within the past six months.
Why is Citi forcing employees and their spouses/partners to quit using tobacco products?
Citi is not forcing employees to stop using tobacco products. However, we take tobacco use and its harmful effects seriously, and tobacco use is a major driver of Citi’s increasing health care costs. This is the reason why our office locations across the globe are tobacco free. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that an employee who smokes costs 18% more than a nonsmoker. We must work together to control our health care costs and encourage good health.
If employees are not enrolled in a Citi medical plan, are they eligible for the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program?
Yes. The free Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program is open to all benefits-eligible Citi employees, even if they are not enrolled in a Citi medical plan.
I am not enrolled in a Citi medical plan. Am I subject to the tobacco penalty?
No. Only employees and their spouses/partners who are enrolled in a Citi medical plan are subject to the penalty.
If I quit using tobacco products on my own instead of through the Live Well Tobacco Cessation Program, can I stop paying the penalty mid-year and have all my penalty payments refunded?
Yes. You must complete an affidavit that says you quit using tobacco products on your own and send it to the Citi Benefits Center. You’ll receive a full refund of all penalty payments in the current year once your affidavit is completed, if it is received by .
I do not use tobacco products, but I did not complete the Tobacco Free Attestation when I enrolled in my benefits, and I am now paying the tobacco penalty. How can I stop paying the penalty?
Any employee who did not complete the Tobacco Free Attestation when he or she enrolled in benefits during Annual Benefits Enrollment and who is enrolled in a Citi medical plan will begin paying the tobacco penalty as of or as soon as administratively possible after he or she enrolls in benefits without completing the tobacco-free attestation. In order to stop paying the penalty, you must call the Citi Benefits Center via ConnectOne at . From the ConnectOne “benefits” menu, choose the “health and insurance benefits as well as TRIP and spending accounts” option. You can speak with a representative to discuss discontinuing the tobacco penalty from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
How will I know if I am paying the tobacco penalty? What will it look like on my pay statement?
Your pay statement will not show the breakdown of your Live Well Rewards and/or penalties. It will show only the final cost of your medical coverage for a given pay period after any additions or subtractions. You can view these details and find out whether you are paying the tobacco penalty by visiting Your Benefits Resources™ (YBR ™ ), available through My Total Compensation and Benefits:
In addition, your confirmation of benefits enrollment (which will be mailed to your address on record after the Annual Benefits Enrollment period) will indicate if you are paying the tobacco penalty.
