Plumbing Inspections

All work requiring a plumbing permit must be inspected and approved by a plumbing inspector before the project is finalized.

Some situations that require a plumbing inspection include:

• Ground inspection (prior to the foundation pour).
• Rough inspection (prior to the installation of wall covering).
• Sewer inspection.
• Gas test
• Final plumbing inspection.

When do I call for a plumbing inspection?

Typically the licensed plumbing contractor completing the work will call the Plumbing Inspection section to schedule the required inspections. If you have completed work under the Homeowner's Permit option, you are responsible for scheduling the required plumbing inspections.

How to register a master plumber license?

To register your master plumber license with the City of Houston, the following documents are required:

• Texas Master Plumber's License
• Proof of Insurance

Once you have the required documents please follow these steps:

• Fill out a Registration form
• Register at the Plumbing Inspections Section in person.

First-time registration must be done in person. Renewals may be done via email or fax. Please contact the Plumbing Inspections Section at 832.394.8870 for more information.

Registration Fee

Beginning September 1, 2009, master plumbers will no longer be required to pay a fee when registering with the City of Houston per HB 1354 which was approved in the State of Texas Legislature.
